This gorgeous member of the bird family is currently giving the Budgie a run for it's money as the most popular pet bird. Parakeets make excellent pets - they are hardy, intelligent, easily tamed, learn to talk with ease and come in a stunning array of vivid jewel-tone colors. These colors range from bright yellow to a variety of shades of green and blue, and some have unique rings decorating their necks and throats, and an adorable bright red beak. Originating in Africa, Malaysia, India and Indonesia, these beautiful small parrots make gentle, loving pets when raised in a caring environment and given consistent attention and handling. They should be offered a varied diet, including bird pellets, nuts, seeds, fruits and berries. They are very fast flyers, and their wings must be trimmed on a regular basis.
