Macaw Information Guide

All About Macaws as Pets

Because of their great beauty, spectacular coloring and charming personalities, Macaws have been kept as pets for many centuries. There are a number of Macaw species which vary in size, coloring and some personality traits, but Macaws in general are extremely intelligent, very good talkers and love human attention. These adorable birds are born entertainers, and love to clown around, talk and do tricks for their owners. Since the life span of the Macaw is quite long, the decision to make this wonderful bird a part of your family must be arrived at only after careful consideration. Macaws require a great deal of human companionship and will not do well when left alone in their cages.  As with all intelligent, affectionate pet birds, owning one requires a firm commitment to providing the care and attention the bird needs in order to thrive.  If you are considering making a Macaw part of your family, be prepared to spend several hours each day playing with and being entertained by your Macaw.
